Clinical Guidelines can be found in a variety of places. Below are some well known databases where you may wish to search for guidelines particularly if they have been published.  Alternatively an Internet search using key words may also bring forth some useful sites.

Cork

The CORK database includes over 69,000 items on substance abuse, indexed by over 400 terms. These are primarily from the professional literature and include journal articles, books, book chapters, and reports. The database is updated quarterly. Online searches can be conducted, either in a "Basic Search Format" or an "Advanced Format." Documentation is available.

PubMed

A service of the U.S. National Library of Medicine that includes over 16 million citations from MEDLINE and other life science journals for biomedical articles back to the 1950s. PubMed includes links to full text articles and other related resources.

Cochrane

The Cochrane Library contains high-quality, independent evidence to inform healthcare decision-making. It includes reliable evidence from Cochrane and other systematic reviews, clinical trials, and more. Cochrane reviews bring you the combined results of the world’s best medical research studies, and are recognised as the gold standard in evidence-based healthcare.

Drug

DRUG is the online database of the ADCA National Resource Centre. Started in 1987, it currently contains approximately 60,000 references to books, videos, journal articles, conference papers, research reports and unpublished materials on the health, social and economic aspects of alcohol, tobacco and other drug use. DRUG is updated monthly with more than 300 additional references and all indexed material is held in the National Resource Centre.

Drugscope

Drugscope presents the key publications in reference to the key issues particularly in the UK. Click on the reference for an abstract and you may be able to download directly from the Drugscope website, another website, or purchase a copy online. Check out Drugdata, an on-line database which contains over 90,000 items of drug related literature.

American Psychiatric Association

This site features guidelines and research for practitioners and also hosts the site of the American Psychiatric Institute for Research and Education (APIRE).

Guidelines for the Alcohol and Other Drugs sector

While not exhaustive, this list may assist in finding particular guidelines. Whilst these sites are all reputable it remains your responsibility as a practitioner to assess the level of evidence which it represents.
