The Alcohol and other Drugs Council of Australia (ADCA) is committed to fulfilling its obligations to "contribute to cooperation and policy development at the International level' under the Community Sector Support Scheme (CSSS) administered by the Department of Health and Ageing. This is confirmed by ADCA's Strategic Plan 2009-12 under Strategic Approach 2, Object 1 which reads "provide evidence-based strategies to inform and shape future national and international alcohol and drug policies".

ADCA is a Foundation member of the International Federation of Non-Government Organisations for the Prevention of Drug and Substance Abuse (IFNGO), a Full Member of the International Council on Alcohol and Addictions (ICAA), a Partner Member of the International Drug Policy Consortium (IDPC), and represents non-government organisations in Australia in United Nations discussions on alcohol and other drugs policy matters.
