ADCA’s Policy Positions PDF Print E-mail

As the national peak body, ADCA occupies a key role in advocating for adequate infrastructure support and funding for the delivery of evidence-based alcohol and other drug (AOD) initiatives. ADCA represents the interests of a broad group of AOD service providers and individuals concerned with prevention, early intervention, treatment, supply reduction, and research, and advocates for the alcohol and other drugs sector by:

Ø developing timely and constructive evidence-based policies and making them readily accessible to policy makers, other key stakeholders and the field

Ø preparing submissions for, and giving evidence to, parliamentary committees

Ø meeting with politicians, advisors and other policy makers

Ø participating on government advisory groups; and

Ø utilising the media to highlight issues of concern.

ADCA is currently reviewing and updating a number of policy positions to outline ADCA’s policy agenda across specific drugs and strategies against the latest evidence. While In the majority of cases, the principles behind ADCA’s policy positions remain extant, the supporting data needs to be updated.

Updating ADCA’s policy positions constitutes a lengthy and complex process and will involve the ADCA Board, ADCA’s Working Groups, ADCA Members, and strategic stakeholders in the AOD/ NGO/ related sectors.

The 2003 set of ADCA’s policy positions will remain accessible on the ADCA website, with revised positions being made available once completed. For information on the policy updates, please contact Mr Brian Flanagan, Strategic Communications and Policy Manager, on 02 6215 9802.
