9 June 2009 - ADCA Congratulates New Parliamentary Secretary for Health PDF Print E-mail
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Alcohol and other Drugs Council of Australia (ADCA), Mr David Templeman, today (9 June) congratulated the Hon Mark Butler MP, Member for Port Adelaide, on his appointment to the position of Parliamentary Secretary for Health. Mr Butler fills the position left by the previous Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Health and Ageing, Senator the Hon Jan McLucas, who decided to step down from her portfolio responsibilities. In a media statement issued on 6 June, Prime Minister Kevin Rudd said that Senator McLucas had made a significant contribution and provided valuable support to the Minister for Health in a major area of policy reform which was a priority area for Government.

Mr Templeman said that since the election of the Labor Government at 2007 Federal Election, ADCA had developed a strong and beneficial working relationship with Senator McLucas, particular in the area of alcohol reform.

"Her ability to grasp a wide range of issues across the alcohol and other drugs (AOD) sector was impressive, particularly her advocacy in support of the alcopops taxation legislation when it was first introduced into the Senate," Mr Templeman said. "ADCA thanks Senator McLucas for her ongoing support in the knowledge that she will continue to strive for addressing alcohol-related harm Australia."
