22 April - Drug Action Week 09 to Highlight Alcohol and other Drugs Harm PDF Print E-mail
A broad range of alcohol and other drugs (AOD) issues will form the focus for this year's Drug Action Week from 21-27 June.

With the overarching theme of Alcohol is a drug - TOO!, Drug Action Week 09 will have a daily focus on:

  • Alcohol and Other Drugs in the Community (Monday, June 22)

  • Prevention and Treatment (Tuesday, June 23)

  • Indigenous People/ Rural Australia (Wednesday, June 24)

  • Binge Drinking (Thursday, June 25); and

  • Comorbidity (Friday, June 26).

An initiative coordinated by the Alcohol and other Drugs Council of Australia (ADCA), and supported by the Department of Health and Ageing, Drug Action Week aims to raise awareness about the full range of AOD issues, and highlight the achievements of frontline AOD workers.

ADCA's Chief Executive Officer, David Templeman, said that having a stand alone theme for each day would provide a chance for communities across Australia to use the Drug Action Week brand, information and promotional gear to focus on issues relevant to their communities.

"ADCA continues to work to ensure a high priority is placed on addressing the harm associated with the misuse of alcohol and other drugs," Mr Templeman said. "Drug Action Week provides the community with the opportunity to become more awareness of these issues and see how they may be able to contribute to combating the culture of binge drinking and other harmful behaviours."

Organisers of Drug Action Week events are urged to register now for free promotional packs - this can be done by logging onto the website at www.drugactionweek.org.au.
