ADCA today expressed its sympathy to the families, friends, and communities devastated by the bushfires which have wreaked havoc across “The response of the Australian community has been fantastic,” Mr Templeman said. “ADCA is particularly concerned about the impact this tragedy may have on alcohol and other drug consumption. On behalf of the national alcohol and other drug sector, ADCA would like to advise people of the avenues of support." Mr Templeman said that the spirit of mateship is demonstrated in times like these. "ADCA strongly suggests that friends and families look out for their mates, and recommend that people seek assistance if they are worried that loved ones or friends may be consuming alcohol or other drugs in a harmful manner,” Mr Templeman said. “In times of stress people may turn to alcohol and other drugs, which unfortunately, exacerbates problems in the long run.” ADCA encourages people who have concerns to contact organisations such as Lifeline for immediate counselling, Beyond Blue for information, and Anglicare and UnitingCare for on the ground support.
