Addressing International Concern on other Drugs and Alcohol Misuse: The Alcohol and other Drugs Council of Australia (ADCA) is participating in high level talks addressing issues of preventing drug and substance misuse including alcohol, at an international workshop in Kuching in Malaysia.
Chief Executive Officer of ADCA, David Templeman is attending the 18th International Federation of Non-Government Organisations for the Prevention of Drug and Substance Abuse (IFNGO) workshop from December 9-13 and will represent the Australian alcohol and other drugs sector at the IFNGO Council of Advisors Meeting on December 9. ADCA is a foundation member of IFNGO and has received strong support from the current patron of ADCA Professor Ian Webster OA and former patron, Dr Nanette Waddy who both served as Presidents of IFNGO.
"As Australia's peak body providing a voice for people working to reduce the harm caused by alcohol and other drugs, it is vital ADCA helps to shape responses to the challenges of drug and alcohol misuse, which affects many diverse communities across the world," said Mr Templeman.
Mr Templeman will give two presentations throughout the conference - which will outline current issues regarding policy initiatives on drugs and alcohol in Australia, such as issues of taxation, advertising and the access and ready availability of alcohol, ADCA's resources to help communities respond to issues surrounding inhalants and ADCA's involvement with the National Preventative Health Taskforce - which has the overall aim of making Australia the Healthiest Country by 2020.
"As well as sharing from our experience, we are also keen to hear from other participants about programs and policies they have developed to bring about change in their local communities," he said. "This kind of information sharing can make a real difference as we work towards a common goal to reduce the harm from alcohol and other drugs."
ADCA continues to take up opportunities to work at local, national and international levels to make a difference to the health and safety of all, working in cooperation with all levels of government and other community organizations that are pursuing the same goals. |
