ADCA supports Carers Week

The Alcohol and other Drugs Council of Australia (ADCA) is pleased to be associated with National Carers Week 2008 (19-25 Oct).  Carers week will focus on the theme 'because I care', and promote awareness of the valuable role that carers play in our community.

"We applaud Carers Australia in facilitating this opportunity to remind our community of the value of those who often go unnoticed," says ADCA CEO David Templeman.  "We need to be aware of the growing needs of carers and to be supportive of moves to provide better resources to them."

Carers Week will be launched by the Prime Minister Hon Kevin Rudd MP on Monday October 20 in Canberra, while the following day has been designated as National Carers Day encouraging the wider community to acknowledge the valuable role of carers.

As well as the focus on recognising the value of carers, Carers Week also provides an opportunity for those involved in caring to come together and support one another by sharing ideas and information.

"There are 2.6 million carers in Australia and we cannot underestimate their contribution," says Mr Templeman.  "We hope Carers Week will have a significant impact on the community which will result in greater support and recognition for carers."
