When: 14-16 July 2010 This year, the DANA Conference is themed “Drugs and Alcohol: Every nurse’s business”. Problems caused by the use of alcohol and other drugs touch all areas of medicine and health care. Some problems are well known and highly visible such as respiratory illness caused by smoking, liver disease from harmful alcohol consumption, and overdose from heroin injection. Others are more subtle and often missed by health care professionals as an underlying cause of a wide range of health and social harms. It is clear that people who suffer from the impacts of substance use present in every area of health care, and not always with substance misuse as their primary problem of concern.
